Barbie The Princess and the Popstar Full Movie:
Meribella, am enchanted kingdom, is about to celebrate its five hundred year anniversary. Princess Tori along with her younger sisters Meredith and Trevi are very busy this summer, attending many celebratory ball and other ceremonies, and in each one of them are required to be the essence of poise and propriety. This is really hard work to them and they sneak away to play whenever they cay. They also are obliged by the anniversary to greet all the royal visitors, who have arrived in Meribella for the celebration. Tori dreams of having another life, that of the thrilling popstar, Keira who gets to live a life of music and excitement. She also dreams of attending the Keira concert that will be taking place near the palace.
I can definitely see why people- especially pre-schoolers, the main target audience- will like Barbie The Princess and the Popstar Full Movie. What I’m saying here though is that it didn’t work for me. And I personally like most of the Barbie movies(my top favourites being Nutcracker and Diamond Castle), none of them are among the best movies ever made but due to stereotyping mainly they do get a bad rep. Barbie The Princess and the Popstar Full Movie is at least better than Fashion Fairytale and Fairy Secret, but for me it is one of the weaker ones of the franchise. I thought the backgrounds and colours were beautiful, the songs were catchy and Kelly Sheridan is back as Barbie and does a great job. However, while I liked the colours and backgrounds I wasn’t crazy about the character movements which had a tendency to become awkward. This is the same with the dancing as well, some of it was cool but at other times it got repetitive from an animation and moves perspective. The dialogue is stilted this time around, and in regard to the characters Barbie is too spoilt and pampered and the villain is obnoxious. I’m not sure whether I’d go as far to say that the story is a direct rip-off of Barbie in Princess and the Pauper, but it is derivative of it. It is also incredibly predictable with nothing new or fresh and the magical items idea isn’t explained and is not interwoven into the story anywhere near as successfully as Barbie as Rapunzel. The message is a good one and means well, the problem is that I’ve seen and heard it done so many times and much better.

A singer-songwriter famed all over the world, Keira is scheduled to perform at Meribella’s five hundredth anniversary festival. She loves touring, meeting her fans and her awesome and over-the-top performances. On the other hand, this takes her away from writing songs, which is what she is truly passionate about. From her point of view, being a princess would be the perfect life for her. The following day, the local aristocracy have are invited to the palace to spend time with the royal family.
Tori’s aunt, tells Tori she cannot go to Keira’s concert, as she is obliged to greet the royal guests. However, Tori and Keira meet when the singer arrives for the festival and become fast friends, along with Vanessa and Riff their pet dogs. While Tori shows Keira around the palace they joke about exchanging places. Keira confesses she would love to be princess and wear a Tori’s tiara. Utilizing Keira’s magical microphone and Tori’s magic hairbrush, it turns out that Keira looks just like Tori, and Tori transforms herself to look just like the famous singer.
Tori persuade Keira that they should stay disguised while she continues showing the other girl around the palace. They come to a hidden garden, where they watch fairies tending to all the plants. She shows Keira the diamond gardenia, which the royals use to pay for all sorts of things. She goes on to tell her new friend that it is what keeps the kingdom enchanted, and without it, all the plants in Meribella would wither and die. Tori picks up a pair of diamonds that had been dropped by the magical flower. The fairies add the diamonds to Keira’s and Tori’s necklaces, changing them into friendship necklaces.
Crider, Keira’s manager who is known to her as Seymour, has had enough of being in his singer’s shadow and shows up at the palace in hopes of stealing some riches for himself. Upon overhearing Tori’s aunt talking about the princess showing Keira to the secret garden, he decides to take the diamond gardenia for himself.
After Keira almost gets into trouble, the girls return their rooms, but decide they decide to pretend to be each other for at leas one more day. Tori instructs Keira on how to act the role of a princess and then Keira shows Tori how to act like a popstar. Tori hands out autographs and learns about a serious drought in her kingdom, then performs on stage for the first time. In the meantime, Prince Liam begins to fall in love with the disguised Keira. Keira also learns a new song from Tori’s sisters, but ends up getting locked in her room by Tori’s aunt for a speech that Tori forgot to finish.
Crider and Rupert, his assistant, meanwhile try to steal the diamond gardenia. Tori and Keira act to prevent the theft. Crider attempts to escape with the Gardenia in his flying suit. To stop him Tori and Keira, utilize the magic microphone and magic brush to alter his hairstyle and his clothing. This forces him to drop the diamond flower and it shatters in to a million pieces. In order to replace it, the girls take the diamonds from their friendship necklaces and plant them in the hopes of growing a new Gardenia.
They then return to Keira’s concert as best friends, deciding that although they enjoyed trading places, it’s better to be yourself.
