A red panda named Sagi and a peacock named Azul, come across a six-year-old girl who has been cast ashore on their island after a terrible storm. They and Tika, a baby elephant decide to take care of her and name her Ro, after the broken nameplate on the battered trunk that was also washed ashore that day. The girl learns to talk to the animals, but remembers nothing of her life, her past, even her true name. The only thing she has to go on is the trunk and a piece of a flag bearing a white rose.
A decade later, Antonio, a handsome prince comes across Ro’s island. He and his friend Frazer are rescued by her from crocodiles. In gratitude Antonio invites her back to his kingdom of Apollonia. Ro accepts the invitation, providing her animal family can join her, and on the voyage back finds herself falling in love with him.
Upon arrival, Antonio takes Ro to meet his family; his parents, King Peter and Queen Danielle and younger sisters, the triplets, Rita, Gina and Sofia. The little girls instantly adore Ro and the animals. However, Antonio’s parents are not so impressed, the king especially over his son’s infatuation with this “uncivilized island girl”. Danielle’s monkey, Tallulah, however, becomes fast friends with her.
While Antonio was away, Peter arranged a royal marriage with a nearby kingdom between his adventurous son and the Princess Luciana. Luciana is no more happy about the arrangement than Antonio is, wanting to marry for love, not as part of her mother’s schemes. The kind Luciana also become quick friends with Ro. Her mother, Queen Ariana’s actual motive is revenge and she plans to poison the king and queen of Apollonia and overthrow the kingdom in revenge for her family’s banishment, and reduction to pig farmers, for the attempted regicide of Peter and Danielle many ears before. She quickly identifies Ro as an obstacle to get rid of.
Ro’s repeated attempts to charm King Peter fail, much to do with Ariana’s actions. She starts too long to return to the simple happiness of her island, with only her love for Antonio keeping her from leaving. With help from her animals, her innate grace and an amazing gown she wows the others at the engagement party for Antonio and Luciana. After a dance with him, she leaves the party. Antonio has admitted his lover for her, but he is still pledged to Luciana. Outside she talks with a horse whose carriage carries a flag with a white rose. It tells her it is the flag of Paladia, but that the rulers there never had any daughters.
Antonio decides to run away with Ro, and write her a note, Tika, however hides it, afraid that If Ro runs away, she will also abandon her animal friends. Soon Ariana enacts her plan, having her three pet rats spread a poison that will cause all of the kingdoms animals to fall into a deep sleep. When the animals fail to wake up Ro is blamed and locked away by King Peter, and later Azul and Tallulah succumb to the poison. Antonio pleads for her release, and agrees to his father’s demands. King Peter agrees to release her, and Antonio must marry Luciana.
Ro and her animals are put on a boat back to her island. It is, however, sabotages by Ariana and the group are thrown overboard and almost drowned before Ro can call some nearby dolphins to save them. While drowning, however, Ro has a flashback to when she was a girl, and remembers a man calling her name. She remembers her real name is Rosella.
Ariana plans to poison everyone at the wedding of Antonio and Luciana by putting her sleeping herb into the wedding banquet. She is seen by a bird, who tells Ro, who has returned to the castle create an antidote to Ariana’s deadly sleeping herb. She is discovered by a guard and is captured, but not before Sagi escapes with the antidote. He is almost caught as well, but Tika stops the guard that was chasing him.
The commotion disrupts the wedding. Antonio is happy to see Ro again, but Peter wants her put in the dungeon for returning. Ro explains that the kingdom’s animal sickness was caused by a poison, which is proven when Sagi shows up with Tallulah, who is now apparently fine. Ro accuses Ariana of the plot, who denies any involvement. Luciana, however, confesses that her mother told her not to eat any food at the wedding. Arians tries to escape in a carriage, but it is eventually overturned and she falls into a pig sty.
The contrite King Peter offers Ro and Antonio his blessing and hugs his future daughter-in-law. When Ro tells them her real name is Rosella, the Queen of Paladia, Marissa comes forwards and tells them she had a daughter with that name. Rosella remembers a lullaby her mother used to sing, and singing it proves she is the princess of Paladia. Mother and daughter embrace for the first time in more than a decade, overjoyed at being re-united. Soon, Ro and Antonio are married and set sail on a honeymoon accompanied by their animal friends.
